School
Resource Officers Training Course Description:
This
forty hour class has been developed as a result of requests and working
as a School Resource Officer. The curricula is constantly being updated
by the instructor and other juvenile experts based upon the trends,
needs and goals of law enforcement agencies, schools and the general
public.
The
class focuses on the School Resource Officers Program as another congruent
to community policing by stressing the importance of a continuous collaboration
with youth, families, schools, community based organizations and law
enforcement. Students will be exposed to various techniques that will
ensure successful programs and those strategies that tend to hinder
the program success. The students are encouraged and given opportunities
to share their experiences in order to facilitate other officers. Guest
speakers will include representatives from the Juvenile Justice System,
the public school district; community based organizations and several
youth offenders presently in rehabilitation programs.
Who
should Attend?
Any School Resource Officer, DARE Officer, Juvenile Liaison Officer,
School Car Officer or Juvenile Probation Officer. This course is designed
based upon the goals of the California School Safety Plan. Students
will be expected to prepare and demonstrate one Law Related Education
(LRE) topic and a final examination will be administered.

About
the Instructor:
The Instructor and developer of the School Resource Officers Training
Course, Officer Yulanda Williams is a member of the San Francisco Police
Department. She is considered a subject matter expert of juvenile issues
and a published author. Her program has been featured across the United
States as well as in England and other foreign countries. As the course
developer, Officer Williams receives many requests for interviews and
serves as a consultant for several existing SRO Programs with other
law enforcement agencies. She is a graduated of the P.O.S.T. Master
Development Instruction Course and as such she is certified to teach
in Police Academies in California. She is a high energy and knowledgeable
trainer and she utilizes various professional training aids and techniques
to maintain a captive audience.
