Red
Ribbon Week's ("Too Cool To Do Drugs")
third year celebration was held on October 28, 1998 at Kezar Stadium.
Over 3,000 youth from middle schools in San Francisco were in attendance.
Each young person made a pledge to resist from peer pressure to use
drugs. The San Francisco Police Department in collaboration with the
San Francisco Unified School District played an active role in helping
to make his event possible. Officer Billy Ray Smith of the S. F. Striders
Youth Program, led the pledge. The S. F. Strider's motto is, "to
promote fitness instead of drugs". Many young people are drawn
to his program whose initials stand for "Scholastics First!".
Striders stands for Striving
Towards Responsible Individual Development
Education Respect and Self-esteem". The Strider's
program affords youth opportunities for positive interactions with law
enforcement officers, adults and their peers while providing a safe
environment for your child to travel and compete in athletics across
the United States.
By the way, parents,
